Thank you for your interest in the Detroit GEMS study! Here you can find links to the study survey, frequently asked questions (FAQ) and learn more about what is involved in participation.
Participation:
If you decide you would like to participate you will be asked to:
- Complete a survey
- The survey will take about 45-60 minutes of your time.
- You can complete the survey online, over the phone with an interviewer or on paper with a pre-paid envelope to return it from any United States Postal Service (USPS) mailbox.
- Provide a biospecimen (blood or saliva sample)
- Some participants will be asked to provide a saliva sample by mail. Directions and a saliva collection kit will be provided to you, along with a pre-paid return envelope.
- Other participants may be asked to provide a blood sample, but could choose to provide saliva if there are any concerns or scheduling difficulties with providing blood.
- (Optional) Agree to allow the research team to access your hospital-stored tumor tissue and medical records. Should you agree to this portion of the study, our research team would request the tissue that was taken from either your biopsy or surgery related to your cancer diagnosis or treatment. The tumor tissue is used to look at the genetic markers and genetic mutations in your sample. The tumor is returned to the hospital/ facility where you had your procedure after our pathologists have reviewed it.
In appreciation of your time spent taking the survey and providing a blood or saliva sample, you will be sent a $50 gift card.
